The Kindergarten class has excitedly welcomed a new friend into our classroom and we have named him Jack! Jack is a two-year-old Bearded Dragon that we adopted from a couple living in Olathe, KS. He is unique in the fact that he lost part of his tail when he was a baby and now has a stub tail; the children think it is so cute and I happen to think gives him great character. The students enjoy spending time bonding with Jack and learning about the insects and greens that he eats.

We mostly enjoy playing with him after breakfast and during play-based centers. Jack’s day includes everything from block castles built for him to pretend baths in the house area. Learning to care for and love a pet is a wonderful experience and builds great responsibility, as well as social-emotional skills, for young children. These are just a few of the many reasons we are very excited about Jack joining our Kindergarten family!

The students spent time suggesting names for our new pet and then took a vote on their favorite name. Jack was the winner!
