Announcements

No Classes Tomorrow: As a reminder, there are no classes tomorrow, Friday, October 16, as it is a Professional Development Day for our staff. You can view our school calendar on www.afiakc.org

Arts Integration Family Workshop: We are excited to share that Harlan Brownlee will be leading a family workshop about Arts Integration in the classroom. Designed for parents of AFIA, this 1-hour session introduces you to the Kennedy Center’s definition of art integration and the characteristics of quality arts integration. For this session, you will participate in arts integrated virtual model lesson, that integrates dance with weather concepts, and then reviews how arts integration benefits your child’s learning.

We hope you can join us! Mr. Brownlee works with the AFIA community in integrating movement into learning. Last year, he engaged in teaching residencies with a number of AFIA teachers. Mr. Brownlee brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our community and we are excited for these sessions. Please RSVP here and we will send you the Zoom link.

Fall Conferences: Teachers are preparing for upcoming Fall Conferences. Please check your Seesaw account Friday afternoon for sign-up information and other details.

Survey: As we work to move forward on our next steps in safely returning to the physical school building, we ask that all families complete this survey as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Please read this letter for more info: http://bit.ly/AFIA10-5-2020.  Over half of you have completed this survey so far. Thank you! We are aiming for 100% participation.

Last Day to Take the Census: Today is the last day to take the census. You can take the census by clicking here. The census population count determines how many representatives each state will have in Congress for the next 10 years and how much federal funding communities will receive for roads, schools, housing and social programs. We encourage you to take the census if you have not already.
