Staff and Teacher Appreciation Week
Thank you to the AFIA teachers and staff members for all that you do each and every day to support our students and community. Thank you to the AFIA board members and families who provided our teachers and staff with breakfast, lunch and special treats. We appreciate you all!
Field Day Food Drive
AFIA is happy to host a “Field Day Food Drive” for our families thanks to our partners, Harvesters & School Smart KC. Field Day is Thursday, May 25th. Families are encouraged to join Field Day festivities and hand-select food items to take home with them for the summer! Pantry hours will be open from 8:30am – 3:30pm. If you are unable to attend Field Day, but would still like to receive a pre-packaged bag of food items, please email jenessa.daniels@afiakc.org by May 22nd, and Mrs. Daniels will coordinate with you.
Field Day Volunteers
If you would like to volunteer to help with Field Day games (set up, tear down, facilitation, etc.), please fill out this Google Form, so that Coach Chay can assign you to a location or task. Even if you are unable to volunteer for Field Day, we welcome you to come by the Food Drive! We are excited for Field Day Festivities!
Chickens at AFIA
Thank you to Ms. Gwen and Ms. JJ for working together to bring the chicks to AFIA. The chicks have gotten big enough to move on to their new home, but we sure enjoyed watching the chicks grow and learning about the chicken life cycle.
MAP and NWEA Testing
Last week our third-sixth graders began taking the state MAP assessment. Thank you for making sure students arrived on-time and ready to show what they know! Students worked hard and demonstrated strong academic ownership during testing. MAP Testing continues this week in third-sixth grade.
Additionally, our first and second grade students begin NWEA testing next week. If you have a student in first or second grade, please check their backpack for a paper copy of this letter.
Urban Youth Academy
Family Survey – Please share your feedback
We are administering a schoolwide survey to get your feedback on AFIA’s school climate and culture. This survey is different from the survey we had during February conferences. Some of you completed this survey at the Spring Fling. Thank you for providing your input. So far we have 49 responses, but would love to hear from more of you. You can find the survey link and code in a previous message. We will also send a text blast with the survey link and code next week.
2023-2024 School Year Registration
Registration for the 2023-2024 school year is open. Families need to complete registration by May 26. The first step is to activate your Infinite Campus parent portal account. You will receive an email with the unique activation link every Monday until your account is activated. The subject line of the email is “User Account Activation”. After you activate your account, please follow the instructions in this letter to complete registration. We will be at AFIA on Thursday, May 18 & 25 until 7pm to assist families with registration that need help. You can also call us at 816-444-1720 or email enrollment@afiakc.org.
