Second and Third Graders were excited to begin a ten-week dance intensive with Alvin Ailey Teaching Artist, Mr. Michael Joy. All second and third grade scholars will participate in a weekly dance class led by Mr. Joy and other Alvin Ailey dancers.

Announcements:

  • Today we sent home information about Big Smiles, a dental program offered at AFIA.  Big Smiles provides dental care for students here at school.  Services are covered by most insurance programs and Medicaid; scholarships are also available.  If you would like your student to participate in the Big Smiles program, please return the form to school by this Friday, August 23.  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Arica Miller, AFIA Family School Liaison, at (816) 444-1720 or arica.miller@afiakc.org.
  • Please be sure to send back your handbook acknowledgement form, bus contact and technology acceptable use agreement by this Friday.  These forms were sent home with your scholar the first week of school.
  • Join us on Friday, September 20, for our second annual Picnic on the Playground from 6-7:30PM.  Bring your lawn chairs/picnic blankets and join us for hamburgers/hot dogs and a dance party.
  • Please be sure you’ve read the dismissal updates that were sent via text blast this week.  We appreciate everyone working together to help improve this daily routine.

  • City in Motion Children’s Dance Theater: Does your child like to dance? This Saturday, August 24th, City in Motion Dance Company is holding auditions for Children’s Dance Theater (CDT). All children in CDT must take two technique classes a week. Scholarships are available. More information can be found here.
