Announcements and Reminders

Harlan Brownlee, local Kennedy Center teaching artist is collaborating with AFIA classroom teachers in integrating dance into classroom instruction. In these pictures you can see students representing their learning through movement. This work is funded by the Missouri Arts Council.

No School on Friday! October 22nd is a professional day at AFIA. You can see AFIA’s calendar here.

Thank you for your attendance at family conferences. It is always so great to families during conference time. It is not too late to sign up for conferences if you have not had one yet! Please reach out to your child’s teacher.

We are pleased to share that Big Smiles Dental was here this week. This week, 33 of our students were seen by a dentist on-site at AFIA. Thank you to Big Smiles for making this possible. And, thanks to our social worker, Jenessa Daniels for coordinating this!

Hearing screenings will take place at AFIA on October 25th and November 1st. We will notify you if there is any follow up needed for your child.

We had a fire drill yesterday (October 20th) at school. All of the students and staff members exited the building safely. We wanted to let you know in case your students had any questions.

Thanks to everyone who has completed the Concentric testing consent form. This allows us to use a state funded program for regular COVID-19 PCR testing. If you have not completed the consent form, it is not too late. Please see this letter from October 4th.

To hear more about what is happening in one of our enrichment classes, LACES, see this blog entry.

Fall Parties: We will have our Fall Parties on Friday, October 29th from 1:45-2:45PM.

Students are allowed to bring costumes to school with the following in mind:

  • Costumes must be sent to school in a bag. Costumes must be school appropriate and may not include weapons, masks or make-up.
  • Students must be able to put their costume over their clothing. They are unable to bring a costume that requires them to change their clothing. At the end of the celebration, they will remove their costume before dismissal.
  • Unfortunately we cannot allow visitors to join us for parties. However, many families want to be involved by contributing pre-packaged snacks or other party supplies. All food must be prepackaged.
  • If you do not want your child to participate in fall parties, please let your child’s teacher know so we can arrange an alternative activity.

Please see this flyer for for more information about an opportunity to provide your opinion on the COVID-19 vaccine and take home a tablet for free. This Saturday you can participate at Bluford library.

Please see this flier for adventure opportunities with Start at Zero. Additionally, if you have a child who is 0 – 5, you can work with Start at Zero to complete a developmental screening. Please feel free to reach out to our school social worker, Jenessa Daniels (816.444.1720) to schedule this!
