We hope this message finds you enjoying a wonderful summer break. As we approach the new school year, we are excited to share some important updates and information with you. Below are important dates and details about our year together. Additional important dates are included on the 2024-2025 school calendar

Important Dates 

Please mark your calendars for the following important dates: 

  • Thursday, August 15th: Back to School Night (5:30-7PM)
    • Join us on Thursday, August 15th for Back to School Night. We will gather in the gym at 5:30PM to introduce our staff and then classrooms will be open for students and families to meet their teachers and drop off school supplies. This is also a great opportunity to connect with other families. 
  • Monday, August 19th: First day of school 
  • Tuesday, July 30th: Popsicles on the Playground (NEW DATE) has been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 30th.
  • Thursday, July 18th: AFIA Community Garden Day (9-11AM) 

Start and End Times

We are partnering with Brookside Charter School this year to provide bus transportation. To allow for continuity & consistency of bus service to families, we have slightly adjusted our school hours. Our school hours for the 2024 – 2025 school year will be 9:05AM-4:10PM. Students must be in their seats and ready to learn at 9:05AM, thus we ask that students arrive no later than 8:50AM. 

Teachers plan learning for every minute that students are in class, so it’s important that students arrive on time and stay for the entirety of the day. When possible, we encourage families to schedule appointments during professional development days in order to minimize missed instruction as we know that school attendance has a significant impact on students’ long term academic success.  

Registration

If you HAVE NOT completed your registration, it is very important that you do so immediately. Additionally, students cannot be assigned to a class roster until registration is complete.  If you need assistance, call 816-444-1720 or email enrollment@afiakc.org.

Extended Day

  • We are excited to announce that we are partnering with Upper Room KC for our after school care program this year. Families that selected they needed before care or after care this year will be sent the information to register by the 1st week in August. 
  • Please note that students enrolled in Before Care will not be routed to a morning bus. Students enrolled in After Care will not be routed to an afternoon bus. 
  • Car riders who eat breakfast at school should arrive between 8:40-8:45AM. 

School Supplies & Dress Code 

You can find school supply lists and dress code information here. Please note that we will more strictly enforce the dress code policy in the upcoming school year, particularly related to footwear as closed toe shoes allow students to fully participate in recess and PE.

Class Lists

Families are notified of their child’s teacher(s) for the upcoming year with a personal phone call from one of their teachers. Teachers will begin contacting families on August 6th to introduce themselves.
